“Summer is”

Here is my first post of new work in a while…And since we are still in Summer but well past the halfway point (and it being so damn hot almost everywhere in the U.S. right now!) I felt this poem apropos…

Let me know what your favorite poem about Summer is in the comments!

Summer is

Summer
is dogged days –
Lazy with purpose,
oxymoron,
millions of stars,
hot, clear, and
picnic-y.

Summer
is loose –
Clothing,
morals,
a vacation wallet.

Summer
is welcome –
After frost and
anorak,
by flowers who can
can take the heat.

Summer
is temporary –
Like youth,
and ends while
no one’s looking.
But, unlike youth,
it returns, and
makes us feel
young
all over again.

Oh, I like that, kinda bluesy somehow.

My favorite Summer poem is short enough to post here. 🙂

    “Fireflies in the Garden”
    BY ROBERT FROST

Here come real stars to fill the upper skies,
And here on earth come emulating flies,
That though they never equal stars in size,
(And they were never really stars at heart)
Achieve at times a very star-like start.
Only, of course, they can’t sustain the part.
