The latest of my new favorite poets is Caroline Caddy. I discovered her via the Poetry Foundation’s newsletter and the section titled Poems about Loneliness and Solitude.
Her poem in the section is titled “Solitude”, and it’s truly marvelous. It succeeds in doing what every good poem should; distilling a major idea into its essence in a few, miraculous words.
My favorite lines are:
“It has a quiet patina
that both absorbs and reflects
like a valuable instrument
you have to sign for
– contract with alone –”
